Bakery Manager

The Bakery Manager is a member of the Site Leadership team and has direct responsibility for bakery performance. The core focus of this role is ensuring an effective safety culture is in place whilst also developing and leading programs to continuously improve team engagement, product quality and cost performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensures that the operation complies with all legislation and ethical standards with regards to safety, food safety, quality, environmental requirements and employee legislation
  • To optimise all aspects of production across multiple shift teams, ensuring the effective and efficient utilisation of employees, equipment, materials and processes
  • Champions an environment of Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence
  • Promotes employee engagement and motivation across the operation to drive engagement among the team
  • Ensures all capital investment projects are adequately resourced operationally and delivered on time
  • Develops and delivers short to medium term strategic plans for the Bakery and contributes to longer term strategic direction for Poole site as part of Site Leadership Team
  • Works closely with other functions such as Marketing, R & D, Technical and Procurement to ensure active involvement in developing and improving products to ensure the flexibility of the manufacturing facilities to be able to deliver business growth plans

Experience and Skills

  • Degree educated (or equivalent), ideally in a Food Science, Engineering or Supply Chain discipline
  • Experience of managing large teams within a FMCG/Food Production environment
  • Demonstrated delivery of performance improvement delivered through the management of managers
  • NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (desirable)
  • Knowledge of GMP, Food Safety Legislation and 3rd party audit standards (e.g. BRC, IFS)
  • Experience of managing significant change within a manufacturing environment
  • Effective analysis, problem solving and decision making skills
